A new EU Anti-Corruption Directive on the horizon: What it entails and how it’s relevant
/A new EU directive on combating corruption is being developed. The draft directive aims, for the first time at an EU level, to combine rules on corruption in the public and private sectors under one legal act. It will replace two separate EU legal instruments – a 2003 Council framework decision1 on corruption in the private sector and an EU Convention from 1997 on corruption involving EU officials. It will also amend a 2017 directive on fraud and other criminal offences that affect the EU’s financial interests. The objective of the new anticorruption directive is to increase effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts across the EU.
